Time away from work is an important part of the Synopsys benefits package. Because we fill our days with challenging and rewarding work, we also need to rest, have the flexibility to travel, relax, recover from illnesses, and spend time with our loved ones. That's why we offer time off and flexibility to all employees.
For U.S. employees only, there are two main programs.
Exempt Time Off (ETO) for Exempt Employees
The ETO program provides you with more autonomy and flexibility, because it eliminates the accrual of time off. As an exempt employee, you don't need to track your exact hours worked and you're afforded a certain amount of flexibility in arranging your schedule.
Due to the nature of your exempt position, you're required to exercise significant discretion. We trust you to use that discretion and flexibility responsibly, and we believe that unaccrued ETO is consistent with that approach.
How It Works
- You're not limited to or allotted a specific amount of paid time off each year.
- You may take time off at your own discretion, as long as it is prearranged with your manager. It will be your responsibility to work with your manager to ensure coverage while you’re out, unless the ETO is for an emergency or is unplanned, such as for sickness.
- Time off will be paid at your base salary.
How to Request Time Off
Before approving ETO requests, managers will consider business needs, departmental coverage, and your deliverables.
Vacation
- Coordinate with your manager as far in advance as possible.
- Submit your request using Employee Central when requesting more than two days of time off.
Non-Vacation
- Notify your manager as soon as possible.
- Contact The Larkin Company, our leave administrator, at (866) 330-1975, if your absence will last more than three business days.
Other Time Off (Leaves of Absence)
- Record bereavement or jury duty time in Employee Central.
- For other leaves of absence, such as medical leave, contact The Larkin Company, our leave administrator, at (866) 330-1975.
Flexible Time Off (FTO) for Non-Exempt Employees
As a non-exempt employee, you accrue FTO. Because you record all of your hours worked, an accrual system that provides specific amounts of paid time off is consistent with that practice.
How It Works
You'll accrue up to a maximum possible FTO account balance, as indicated below.
Length of Service Equals | Accrual Rate (Per Year / Per Pay Period) Non-Exempt Full-Time Employees | Maximum Total Accrual Non-Exempt Full-Time Employees |
---|---|---|
0 to12 months | 143.78 hours / 5.53 hours | 229 hours |
13 to 24 months | 152.10 hours / 5.85 hours | 229 hours |
25 to 36 months | 159.90 hours / 6.15 hours | 240 hours |
37 to 48 months | 167.96 hours / 6.46 hours | 252 hours |
49 to 60 months | 176.02 hours / 6.77 hours | 264 hours |
61 to 72 months | 184.08 hours / 7.08 hours | 277 hours |
73 to 84 months | 192.14 hours / 7.39 hours | 289 hours |
85 to 96 months | 200.20 hours / 7.70 hours | 300 hours |
97+ months | 208.00 hours / 8.00 hours | 300 hours |
You won't be required to use FTO during unpaid portions of any leaves of absence—but you have the option of doing so. You'll also be eligible for up to two weeks of pay while on family and medical leaves of absence. This paid time will not count against your FTO accrual bank.
