What You Need To Know

So, who gets to take advantage of all the great Synopsys benefits? Generally, you and your dependents do if you’re a regular full-time or part-time U.S. employee. Interns are also eligible for several benefits.

You

You’re eligible to participate in U.S. Synopsys benefits plans if you’re on the U.S. payroll, and one of the following applies:

  • A regular full-time employee scheduled to work at least 30 hours a week and living in the United States
  • A regular part-time employee scheduled to work 20–29 hours a week and living in the United States
  • An intern (interns are not eligible for all benefits; learn more about the benefits that are available to interns)

Your Spouse

A spouse is the individual to whom you’re lawfully married but from whom you’re not legally separated.

Your Domestic Partner

A domestic partner is an individual of the same sex or opposite sex with whom you’re in a domestic partnership, civil union, or other similar formal relationship that’s not a marriage under state law.

For your domestic partner to be eligible for Synopsys benefits, you and your partner must meet the eligibility criteria and complete an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership through Benefitsolver during your initial enrollment. If you have a state-registered domestic partnership or state-registered civil union partnership, you’ll need to upload proof of this registered domestic partnership or civil union partnership to Benefitsolver upon initial enrollment.

If you cover a domestic partner or a domestic partner’s child who does not qualify as a tax dependent, the coverage will cost you more, because that contribution will be taken on a post-tax basis, and the income tax withheld from your paycheck will be increased to cover the tax due on the imputed income value of benefit coverage.

Your Children

This can be your children, up to age 26, who live in the United States, including:

  • Unmarried and married natural or adopted children
  • Stepchildren
  • Children of a qualified domestic partner
  • Children for whom you or your spouse are a legal guardian and claim as tax dependents
  • Foster children
  • Children placed with you for adoption

Your children are eligible for Synopsys medical benefits through the month in which they reach age 26. They’re eligible to continue coverage after age 26 if they have a physical or mental disability, are incapable of self-support, and are dependent upon you for support.

Dependent Verification

Dependent verification is required for all covered dependents. You’ll have 30 days to verify dependent eligibility and upload your documents to Benefitsolver. Dependents will be in pending status until they’re verified. If you don’t provide verification before the deadline, your dependents will not be covered.

Review the list of Synopsys dependent verification requirements and supporting documentation.

If your dependent is disabled, they may be eligible to continue active coverage as a disabled dependent if you provide proof that they’re incapacitated per medical guidelines. If you’d like to apply for the disabled dependent status, contact Synopsys Benefits. Your application must be submitted and approved before your dependent is scheduled to lose coverage.

When Your Benefits Take Effect

The date on which your new or updated benefits take effect depends on when you enroll in or make changes to them.

  • As a new hire. Your benefits are effective on your date of hire if you enroll within 30 days of your first day.
  • During Open Enrollment. Your benefits elections or changes take effect on January 1 of the following year.
  • As part of a qualified life event. Your benefits elections or changes take effect on the event date or the first of the month following the life event, depending on the life event.
